A starter site is three pages — Home, About, Contact — built mobile-first, loading fast, with a working contact form and the technical SEO groundwork in place. For a tradesperson, consultant or single-location shop that needs to exist properly on the internet and rank locally, that is genuinely the right product.
What it is not is a custom-designed brand experience with bespoke illustration and a content strategy. Anyone selling you that for $499 is not delivering it. We would rather tell you where the line is than have you discover it at handover.
Owning your own site matters more than people expect
The domain and hosting are registered in your name, and you get the site files and every login at handover. This sounds like a small detail until you want to move.
A depressing share of the small-business sites we are asked to rescue are on a platform the owner cannot log into, at a registrar the previous developer controls, with no export path. The site works right up until the relationship ends, and then the business discovers it does not actually own its own address. We hand everything over precisely so that leaving us is easy — which is the only honest reason to expect you will not.
What we mean by "SEO-ready"
Every build ships with schema markup, an XML sitemap, canonical tags, correct heading structure, fast mobile pages, and Google Business Profile setup with Search Console verified. That is the groundwork — it gets you indexed properly and competitive for local searches, which for most small businesses is where the actual customers are.
Ranking for competitive national terms is a different job. It takes sustained content and earned links over months, and we will scope that honestly rather than implying a five-page site will do it. If someone promises you page one for a competitive term as part of a website build, that promise is the tell.
WordPress, Shopify, or hand-built
We pick based on who maintains it afterwards. WordPress suits businesses that want to edit their own content regularly and are willing to keep it updated. Shopify makes sense for real product catalogues where payments, tax and shipping need to just work. A hand-built static site is fastest and cheapest to host, and is the right answer for a site that changes a few times a year.
Whichever it is, timelines assume prompt feedback from you. The single largest cause of delay on every web project we have run is waiting on copy and photographs, which is why we ask for those up front rather than at the end.
